Car recalls have become a fairly common thing, after all, production is quite high and despite all the controls that new models have to go through it can be quite easy for minor flaws to fall through the cracks and for vehicles to go out into the world with a small issue that only becomes apparent after use. Regrettably this is not the case for the new Honda Acura ZDX Electric Vehicles, which has been recalled because of a problem with the bolts that hold the passenger-side front stabilizer bar bracket.
Honda, established in 1948 by Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa as a reliable, cheap motorcycle company, has had a stellar reputation for years. They have built some of the most solid vehicles of the past 70 years and that is why millions of people trust them every year with their lives on the road, and while this is not their first recall, nor will it be their last, the reasons for their recalls have been few and far between and not usually as terrifying for drivers as this one.
A very small positive of this particular instance, usually Honda recalls affect drivers worldwide, as they tend to reuse pieces and manufacturing techniques worldwide to improve their productivity, however, this latest recall only affects their Acura brand, which is quite limited as it is, and in particular cars produced and manufactured in their General Motors Tennessee factory.
While Acura is a part of Honda, it was established in 1986 to compete with established European luxury carmakers by reframing the company’s philosophy and manufacturing just premium, high-performance cars, it is a smaller part of the company that operates fairly independently, especially regarding its manufacturing, so the recall should not affect the parent company too much, especially since the manufacturing was outsourced in this particular case.
The results of the Honda Acura recall
Since this recall is so specific, it only affects the electric version of the Acura ZDX models, other cars of the same lineup that are powered by a traditional gasoline engine have not been affected by the problem and thus drivers will not need to worry about bringing them in to be repaired.
Having said that, and despite it not being their direct responsibility since it was clearly a manufacturing error, both Honda and Acura are committed to fixing the mistake and are taking the hit by repairing the faulty pieces free of charge for any customer that needs it. They will likely also be taking responsibility for any additional damage that ma have been caused to the vehicle because of the malfunctioning part.
Since Honda is a very well-known brand, they will likely have a lot of customers reaching out to see of their model has been affected by this mistake in manufacturing, but not to worry, they will be sending out notifications of the recall to its dealerships and customers during the month of May, so of you are one of the affected customers you will get notified in a timely fashion.
The real hit of this recall is the fact that it happened to its electric model. Customers nowadays are already reluctant to purchase electric vehicles for a myriad of reasons, and all the faults that they have seen with every company that produces them is putting many of them off purchasing a second one and it is not a surprise. In the haste to get them into the market and seize the opportunity, it seems like some checks and balances have been skipped and that manufacturers will need to implement better safety measures to ensure that in the future these errors do not affect disproportionately electric vehicles.
