Thousands of people in Alaska will be receiving a payment of $1,702 from the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) in 2025. If you still don’t know what this is all about, let me explain: The PFD is financed by the multimillionaire investments funds collected from energy royalties revenue. This way, the residents can share the state’s wealth that come from oil and minerals. Every year, the state calculates the dividen using the net profits from the last 5 years, after (of course) deducting all the administrative expenses and other government obligations. This program is designed to give back to the people of the state some benefits from the wealth the land they live in is generating.
This year the check will be $1,702 per persone, a nice push for Alaskan’s budget. You can verify your status and all your info on myAlaska, the official program’s app.
Theres 3 important dates you should definitely mark in your calendar: October 2, October 23 and November 20. Why? Because these are the window payment.
Who qualifies?
The PFD is not automatically distributed, there are some norms to respect if you wan to be a beneficiary . And the government will check if you follow the rules to decide if you get it or not.
To receive the 2025 dividend, this are the requirements:
- You have to be a resident of Alaska for the full 2024 calendar year, and have the intention of living there permanently.
- You cannot have residency or receive benefits from other states since the end of 2023.
- If you were out of Alaska for more than 180 days, your absence should be included in one of the exceptions; medical treatment, school related, military service.
- Conviction for serious crimes can also affect the eligibility: you cannot be sentence or imprisoned in 2024.
The program also covers for minors, as long as one of the parents or legal tutors meet the requirements and apply on behalf of the child.
Here’s the PFD 2025 calendar
We’ve already mentioned the 3 dates to keep in mind, now let’s dig deeper:
If you applied online and chose direct deposit, you’re scheduled for October 2, 2025. Your status should show “Eligible-Not Paid” (this happened from September 18)
If you submitted the application on paper or asked to be payed by check, then your date will be October 23, 2025. Your file should show “Eligible-Not Paid” before October 13, 2025.
The last distribution will be on November 20, 2025 for the applicants which status still shows “Eligible-Not Paid” after November 12, 2025.
The state will continue to pay monthly the applications that are still on hold.
Giving back to the people of Alaska
Remember you can check your status on myAlaska, you just have to login and chose between the state services. You can update any your personal information, check if your application is “Eligible-Not Paid,” and verify the day you will be paid.
The state is announcing phishing (scam) attempts, including fake messages asking to change passwords. So it’s important to know that myAlaska DOESN’T send text messages or emails asking for this type of information. If you receive something suspicious, do not click on the link. If you have any doubts, you can always check the official website.
For Alaskans the “stimulus” is more than a simple push from the government. It can really help with the burden of paying rent, fuel, food and electricity services (which given the cold temperatures are likely to be more expensive than other states). In some communities, the cost of living can be higher, and this dividen balances the expenses. And since part of the PFD goes back to the community (local commerces), it also helps to keep the economy of Alaska going. Sharing the wealth resources of the state with those who make it possible in the first place, it’s a fair solution.
