Walmart is making strides in their quest to attract new customers into their physical stores. The retail giant has realized that they need to modernize and adapt to give their customers what they want and they are up for the challenge. The company has decided to take the plunge and, in 2025, modernize more than 650 stores across the country and Puerto Rico to transform them into what they are calling “Stores of the Future”.
These new stores will not only be more aesthetically in line with the modern trends, but they will also have a redesign to make them more efficient, sustainable and accessible to all. The transformation will be holistic, with changes in signage, product placement, department reshuffles, new technology and even a new Pharmacy to make the communities they serve better.
On top of all the stores that they will be transforming, Walmart will be closing down a few more of their underperforming stores and then building 150 supercenters, which will be an even bigger and better way to showcase all the changes the company is implementing. Many of these supercenters will have features like tire changers, fast charging stations for electric vehicles and different stations depending on the are offering local and national products that the community has a demand for.
All these changes are an investment for Walmart. They are planning on investing directly into the communities they are in, not just by hiring locally, but by stocking their shelves with more locally sourced products and highlighting the resources of these communities.
While the complete list of stores that will be overhauled has not been released yet, we do have a very long list of where Walmart will start, and that is 100 stores in five key states for their business.
