Christmas is one of the most expected times of the year, people get excited about the hot beverages, the holiday music, and above all, the christmas tree.

And although it’s a traditional holiday and the basis usually stays the same, decorations change year after year, adding touches of new trends to innovate the preview’s year decor.

Latest trends on how to decorate your christmas tree this year

This season, there are 3 styles that stand out from the rest:

1. Minimalist:

Based on “less is more,” the minimalist style has arrived to stay. It has become very popular in the last few years: at home, at work, and even at lifestyles. The concept? Every element, has a purpose and a place, and the tree is adding itself up to the trend this year. 2025 Christmas trees will be less packed—but still as charming.

The decorative elements are usually in warm colors (if there’s colors at all). Some people just put soft lighting around the tree to make it cozy, and not to bright, and avoid adding shiny and colorful adornments. Others, don’t even use a whole tree anymore, and instead, they place branches around the house (with an artistic touch), creating that magical vibe all around.

2. Nordic Style

This style, is more like what you would see or even feel on a cabin in the middle of a really cold winter in the nordic countries: Wooden or other natural materials that give a cozy feeling, earthy tones that remember the snow, the fireplace, and maybe a hot cocoa.. neutral colors like brown, beige.

Ornaments are usually figures made of wood, soft textiles or decorative items that recall nature.

3. DIY / Get creative

Besides the traditional tree, there are so many other creative ways to represent Christmas.

One of the most popular recently is the wall Christmas tree. People use ribbon or lights to outline a tree shape on the wall. This is a great option for small places where a regular tree wouldn’t fit, or if you want to do something completely different.

You can adapt the decor with the atmosphere of the place, it can either be a tree figure, or more of a geometric shape, or go all the way to something totally abstract defying the norm.

Where the tradition begins

The Christmas tree has origins in Pagan and Christiantraditions. It all started in Europe, where some Germanic towns had trees like fir, pine and other perennial species that they used in their winter rituals. They were a symbol of eternal life and rebirth of nature.

However, it was around the 16th century, when the tree tradition actually began. They started decorating them with apples, nuts and ribbons.

The custom quickly spread throughout Europe and reached the United States. In 1846, Victoria, queen of England, and her husband, Prince Albert, where portrayed next to a decorated tree, which was more than enough to popularized the tradition in the United Kingdom and other nations.

Today, Chistmas decoration is so much more than the tree itself, accessories often dress it and give it that personal touch making it special. The holiday spirit goes all around the house: with decorated tables with aromatic candles that smell like hot tea and cinnamon, christmassy items every where, couches with it’s winter holiday cushions, garlands of lights.

Have a merry trendy Christmas 2025

There is no “wrong” Christmas decoration, the one that you choose to put in your house this year, that will be the best choice; because the most important part of Christmas is sharing it with your loved ones anyways.

Nordic, traditional, minimalistic or a full DIY, make it yours, and have fun decorating it.
