Many stories are not remembered, but this viral story has reached many people. Recently in the United States, the story of a Postal Service (UPS) mailman has made many people empathize with this story of loyalty and love. It all goes back to when this mailman developed a great human-animal bond with the dog of a war veteran, who unfortunately after passing away, immediately went to find him at the animal shelter to offer him a new life and a new home.

Pet adoption is always a great reflection of the care for animal welfare and the relationship that is born between people and animals. Connections between animals and people can always be born, even in the most unthinkable and everyday places. Read on to learn how this Postal Service created a bond between this dog and the mailman.

Postal worker was later reunited with a friend

Over the course of a lifetime, a mailman will travel to countless homes and may largely be forgotten. But one lucky postal worker was later reunited with a friend that he made on his route, and ended up taking him home with him.

It is necessary to underline how even in this type of work much more framed in the routine can also be a wind of fresh air and create new bonds much more of humans.

When everything begins

Ian Burke was a mail carrier in Dustin, Texas on a route that included an elderly war veteran and his dog, Floyd. Burke visited Floyd’s house every week for around 18 months and developed a real bond with the dog, until he was eventually moved to a new route. It’s funny how meeting someone on a day-to-day basis can lead to connecting with those who are lonely.

The dog needed a new home

But after that move, Floyd’s owner sadly died and Burke was informed that the dog was in need of a new home. He tracked Floyd down to the City of Denton Animal Shelter and pulled out all the stops to ensure that he could take him home.

The connection with animals can go beyond a first owner, as the issue of pet adoption reflects that the love between a person and an animal is just as personal as a relationship with another person.

Burke would be “first in line” for adoptees

Speaking to ABC affiliate WFAA, Burke explained that he had arrived at the shelter before it opened to ensure that he would be “first in line” for the adoptees. He explained that Floyd’s late owner had “loved and cherished” the pet and he wanted to ensure that he would be well looked after.

“I’m taking this guy home with me,” Burke explaines that he was about to take that dog with him. In addition, he did not take it like if it was a normal situatiom, because at the end, he was not adopting a random dog, at the end, he was about to adopt a special dog whose connection with him goes beyond.

“I kind of felt responsible to take care of him. I think he’d be pleased to know that his former mailman is taking good care of his dog,” he said.

Feeling responsable for animal

Below is also a list of requirements to be a responsible pet owner:

They want to be entertained

We spend the day doing things and walking the dog for us is a moment of relaxation. For him, on the other hand, it is a moment of activity. Sometimes cats who feel like playing get into the bag. It is their moment because they have spent the whole day alone and they need that contact, that activity and things to do.

They must be respected

In the case of having an animal with special needs or specific characteristics, we have to respect them as they are.

Animals require effort

Having an animal requires an effort, but “there is no family that wants to have an animal that cannot do it”, assures the veterinarian, who adds that it is important to look for an animal that fits in with you so that it can enjoy living together.

You have to learn to communicate with them

To understand it, you have to observe it. Dogs wagging their tails does not always mean they are happy. Sometimes they do it because they are nervous.
