After 13 years working in the bone marrow transplant unit of a large hospital, Cami, a 38-year-old nurse from Arizona, decided to take a turn in her career by leaving the healthcare sector behind. She opened her own laundromat, thus becoming her own boss, changing not only the field she worked in but also the pace of her life. She told CNBC that she prioritized making more money and working fewer hours, especially now that the laundromat has been running for years. She has been able to delegate the work to six employees, generating around $400,000 last year.

Life-changing decisions

Can you imagine putting your profession aside after 13 years and deciding to invest in a completely new business, thus changing your pace and lifestyle? This is what happened to Cami, a 38-year-old nurse from Arizona, who after more than 10 years working in the bone marrow transplant unit of a large hospital, decided to make a radical change. In her statements to the CNBS, she acknowledges the commendable nature of her healthcare work, caring for and looking after others, especially in a unit like hers. However, she aimed to earn more money with fewer working hours, and having made the decision, she has achieved it. Cami opened a laundromat that has been running for several years and brings her good profits. According to her, “Now I only work about five or six hours a week”.

Expansion of the staff

Over time and with the growth of the laundry business, it has come to have a staff of up to six employees, including one part-time worker. With this delegation of work, Cami can focus on the growth of the business, and she adds that she spends about 10 hours a week creating and posting videos on social media about her business and the experience of running it. Last year, the laundry’s earnings were around $400,000, of which $138,000 were profits. Part of these was reinvested in the business and the other part became her salary. Additionally, social media also brought her about $25,000 in just six months, and she expects the figure to be around $233,000 in 2025.
