Stimulus checks, tax credits, and rebates will be distributed to Americans. This action is due to the inflation the country is currently experiencing. California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia are the states that have submitted aid for various programs, among which households with disabilities must be highlighted. Noteworthy programs include California’s Climate Credit program, Colorado’s PTC or TABOR rebate, and Florida’s My Safe Florida program. Other plans include ANCHOR, Stay in New York, Senior Freeze in New Jersey, and New York’s STAR program. These checks are a new proposal in the current economic context under Donald Trump’s administration.

Millions of Americans could receive refund checks, tax credits, and stimulus payments in 2025

Millions of Americans could receive refund checks, tax credits, and stimulus payments in 2025 thanks to state programs that seek to alleviate the economic impact on families, seniors, and people with disabilities.

Some support will be automatic, while others require an application.

Here we tell you which states will offer these benefits and how to access them.

Learn about each state’s plans

1. California

Residents of the Golden State will receive the California Climate Credit, a subsidy that automatically appears on gas and electricity bills twice a year (in April and October).

These credits come from the cap-and-trade program for polluting emissions, which not only reduces gases but also returns part of the profits to households.

2. Colorado

This state offers two types of support. The first is the PTC (Property Tax, Rent, and Heat Credit) rebate, which can be up to $1,154 per year for low-income individuals over the age of 65, widows/widowers over the age of 58, or individuals with disabilities.

The deadline to apply for the 2024 refund is December 31, 2026.

In addition, under the state’s TABOR law, Colorado residents will receive refunds proportional to their adjusted gross income if the state has a surplus.

Taxpayers who did not file taxes in April can still do so until October 15, 2025, to access the refund.

3. Florida

With the My Safe Florida Home program, homeowners can receive up to $10,000 in rebates if they make improvements to protect their homes against hurricanes.

The state will cover two-thirds of the total cost of the work. The new round of applications opens on August 4, 2025, and priority will be given to low-income households.

4. Georgia

Thanks to a budget surplus, the state will issue automatic tax refunds: $250 for individual taxpayers, $375 for heads of households, and $500 for couples filing jointly.

No application is necessary; simply file your 2023 and 2024 tax returns by October 15, 2025.

5. New Jersey

This state offers three key programs: StayNJ, Senior Freeze, and ANCHOR, which can now be applied for through a single consolidated application.

For example, the ANCHOR program awards up to $1,500. Payments will be made on different dates: ANCHOR begins on September 15, and StayNJ will be quarterly starting in 2026.

The deadline to apply is October 31, 2025.

6. New York

New Yorkers earning less than $150,000 (singles) or $300,000 (couples) will receive a $400 inflation rebate check this fall.

In addition, the STAR program offers a school tax credit for residents who meet certain age and income requirements (generally, over 65 years of age or with incomes below $500,000). For STAR, it is necessary to submit an application.

7. Pennsylvania

The state property tax or rent rebate program can provide up to $1,000 to eligible individuals.

It applies to adults over 65, widows/widowers over 50, or people with disabilities.

Although the deadline has been extended to December 31, 2025, it is recommended to apply as soon as possible, as funds are limited and demand is high.

8. Virginia

This state plans to refund part of the money collected through taxes. Individual taxpayers could receive $200, and couples up to $400. The only requirement is to have filed your state tax return before November 3, 2025. The refund amount cannot exceed the amount you paid in state taxes.
