After organizing her vacation and booking a rental car for her trip to Colorado, Alex Petrakieva posted on her TikTok profile (@alexonabudget), her decision and the details of her travel plan. It was then that people began warning her that she was paying too much for the rental car and that she should have used Costco. Following these recommendations, Petrakieva checked the price of a rental car at Costco Travel, with the exact same conditions as the one she had already booked, and discovered that the price was much cheaper.
In her defense, she claimed that she was not aware of this Costco offer, and she shared it on her social media in case it could be helpful to someone. Not only in the comments on her TikTok video, but also through social media platforms like Reddit, the feedback Costco Travel receives reflects excellent service and value for money compared to other companies.
Viral travel regret
Alex Petrakieva (@alexonabudget) used her TikTok profile to share the consequences of a bad decision when planning her trip. “I’m not sure who needs to hear this, but I’m sure someone does,” she says at the start of the video. After organizing a trip to Colorado with her husband, they finally decided to visit Alamo, paying a total of $677.72. This price referred to a car rental, which included $430.88 for the duration and distance, and another $246.84 in taxes and other fees.
After posting it on her profile, the comments came flooding in, alerting the young woman that she was paying very high prices and that she should have used Costco. “I posted it online, and a bunch of you started messaging me,” she says. “You say, ‘Alex, you use Costco. Why didn’t you use Costco for the car rental?’ I didn’t know Costco had rentals, OK?”
Costco Travel reviews
After these warnings, Petrakieva checked the Costco Travel website, entering the exact same vehicle information she had rented, for the same period but a different week. To her surprise, the price of an SUV, with unlimited mileage and an additional driver for a week, would cost her $290.98.
“So if you’re traveling, take it from me and just use Costco,” says Petrakieva. “Someone told me the best quote ever. Costco is a mindset. And I just need to adopt that,” she said. In response to her slip-up, she highlighted many comments where people shared their experiences with Costco Travel and the benefits of using it.
“Between me, Costco, and ChatGPT, I planned the PERFECT Disney vacation,” wrote one person.
“We just rented one at Glacier National Park, known for its high car rental prices,” wrote another person. “Costco: $600. Everyone else: $1,400-$1,800 for a week”.
“I tell everyone,” another person said. “If you have a Costco membership, the car rental service is king”.
Costco Travel on Reddit
The positive opinion and experience people have with Costco Travel has also been reflected on the social network Reddit, where you can find comments like the following:
“My favorite part about using Costco Travel for car rentals is that you can keep monitoring the site as prices fluctuate, and if your booking becomes cheaper, you can cancel and rebook with zero hassle,” wrote a redditor. “You’re never stuck at a higher price”.
“We always book our rental car, then keep checking the price,” they wrote. “Most of the time, the price drops and we book the updated lowest option, then cancel the previous one”.
