It is always bittersweet when a show comes to an end. Seeing the characters that we have all become attached to leave our screens is never an easy process, even when it is a planned ending like that of popular TV show Stranger Things it can be hard to let go despite all plotlines being accounted for and closed, leaving all viewers if not satisfied, at least with some closure.
The show, which has run for four seasons already is gearing up to release its fifth and final season, which is at the same time exciting for the protagonists but sad for the viewers who will soon need to say goodbye regardless of whether or not they like the ending. The show follows a group of teenagers in the 80s who discover an underground laboratory with a portal to another dimension labeled the “Upside Down” when one of the town’s children disappears.
The riveting storylines have kept audiences hooked for years, and the cast has done their very best to portray these characters in a way that we will truly miss once the show comes to a close, but it seems like one of the actors in the show, Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, is just as torn as the rest of us about this new season and the ending of his character.
In an interview with People magazine he gave some teasers about the new season and left us all with more questions than answers about the finale of Stranger Things. In his own words when describing his last day on set he stated “I just couldn’t believe it at all,” also saying that he felt “confused and sad with the ending: “I was so happy with his ending, and I don’t know, I was satisfied, but I was also very confused and sad, but also very happy. I felt like I was in a dream or something. None of it felt real. I don’t know, it felt perfect.”
Shooting the last episodes was, of course, a very emotional experience for all involved, as he expressed “It didn’t really start to go into focus until the next day. It was like an emotional hangover. But it ended really well, and I just have such positive things to say about everyone. The cast all stayed for the last day, we were all there together. It was really great to be around each other.”
Considering how young he was when he started playing his character (it has been almost ten years since the first season was released) the now 22 year old has had a fascinating and almost meteoric career, but seems to be taking his success in stride and with some amount of humor, as he explains “I don’t think I’d ever go back and do something over, but maybe I would go back to when the show first came out and blew up, and I would directly put myself into therapy. But it was so crazy and overnight, that there was not really any time to think about that.”
The release of the last Stranger Things series finale
While the filming has been completed, the series wrapped up in December 2024, there is still no scheduled release date and the show seems to be still in post-production. The secret is so well kept that Netflix has not even shared a trailer yet and the only information we have has come from the teasers that the actors have been able to say in interviews. Considering the time that it usually takes to edit a show of this caliber, fans are hoping for a release date announcement as well as a trailer (even if it is a teaser) on May 31, 2025, when the next Netflix Tudum event is set to take place.
